Have you all seen the notice on PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor that PHP 4 is reaching it's end of life? I wonder how web hosts will adjust to this and if they'll change to PHP 5 or 6. That could create a lot of work for people as a number of PHP 4 apps won't work on 5 or 6.

What do you all think?

Thats going to a big job for all hosts, i know my host is still on PHP 4, i dont have anything on there at the moment that wouldnt work on PHP 5, not sure about PHP 6, i think hosts should give everyone an option to upgrade or not and when they have a list of everyone to update just take there servers offline for a few hours and update.

I'd say that hosts should have upgraded to PHP 5 by now... Honestly, it introduced a fair bit of useful features from what I've read. I'll be looking forward to PHP 6, but in the meantime, I need to work on PHP knowledge in general!

Wow, that's a great resource TeraTask!
I just looked a glace about PHP6 from the link, it seems that it will have a little bit of change in the class declaration, and it supports inheritance (more like a real language instead of scripting language!)

I agree. Most that I'm familiar with (shared, that is) have PHP 4 by default and allow you to run PHP 5 as a module (I don't fully understand how that works). In my never-humble opinion it should be the reverse.
