Icon8 What is programming Pascal and Delphi?

I've heard about this programming when I was in my elementary school lol... However, I don't really know what is it really? It looks to me that it's just really similar with Visual Basic in general. It had form, etc

I don't really remember it, but I think it was like GUI and we can switch to the Code view and insert some codes to add functionality (like VB right..?)

Pascal is kind of like VB... its an old=school langauge, no GUI. It was actulaly pretty pimp in it's day I've built MANY applications in turbo pascal. Delphi is even more like VB - and has a gui - in fact I think it's very similar GUI to VB and similar syntax to pascal

Are they related? Who invented these programming languages? Are they still used until these days...?

You don't use them in applications, you can build applications with them. CodeGear Home Page

Pascal is the first language I learned back in the stone age when we coded with a hammer & chisel
So progressing on to delphi became a natural step forward.

Delphi is still used somewhat, though I've mostly seen it used for free apps like Dev-C++. There was a project known as Kylix that aimed to bring Delphi programming to the Linux environment, but that has been discontinued.

What language is delphi based on if you know? Is it kind of like C++? or more like C# and Java?

chrishirst said that delphi was based on pascal.

Quote off net i just found:

Delphi combines the user-friendlyness of Visual Basic with the precise control and speed of C++. Without lots of "real" programming, you can develop very efficient and fast Windows applications.
