Icon8 C++ And Game Development?

Anybody knows? I saw that most of Game Development books are using C++ instead of other programming languages such as Java with OpenGL for some reason. C# is getting into Game Development with XNA System. Why C++ ???

C++ is very fast at run time as mentioned in a different thread, if you saw the amounts of if's, elses, do untils and all other types of code in a game say like World Of Warcraft then that would be a very important factor, have you ever played a big game like that on a slow PC? its annoying isnt it, well image that you had to have a top of the range gaming PC just to play a game, would cost more than the £40 game, its ok if you have the money but most people dont.

I have always been interested in C++/DirectX but i guess i never had the time to do what i wanted at the time, i got as far as making an image move and making it look like it walked which was cool but i also needed to learn more C++ really.

Haha, I guess I'm the same with you
I was trying to figure out the term
SpriteBatch sb = new SpriteBatch(); in C# XNA System, (I tried to figure out on how to draw sprites without having the image using XNA, and C#) but I had to time for it.. I'm mostly busy with my school work, plus, now I'm more interested with ASP.NET

I consider C++ is mid-level langauge where ASM is lower-level and BASIC is
higher-level. ASM is very old langauge which is very difficult to learn, spend
more time to program any application but it is very fast. BASIC is higher-level
which is easy to learn, spend less time to program because there are alot of
things are handle for you but application that made from BASIC language are
basically slow. C++ is mid-level which it is not too difficult to learn and
not too easy too. C++ is very flexible and powerful. Another advantage is
it is fast.

But I think in the future, BASIC will dominate the C++. It is like C++ dominate
ASM in the past. (In the past, ASM programmers consider C++ is slow and
toy langauge.)
Since the future computer will be faster.

Is it ever? Because even though we're now having the higher level language, I think we still have to be able to know the ASM language as you said (btw, is ASM = Assembly?) so that we can use our code more efficiently. There are developers that actually program compilers, and I'm sure that they really do need these knowledge to develop a good compilers

I agreed, but there are small percentage of programmer that know ASM and
C++ got alot of lib and some lib are handle hard work for you.

Yeah, that's why they're the only one that got paid most over all others...
I personally also interested with compilers and create efficiency on my applications so that it runs faster than others, probably just me..? I don't think so!!! XD

Yeah, they got extra-salary. But didn't mean they earn more money than
ordinary programmers. It is depend if ordinary programmers make a useful
program or not. If they make useful application, they will earn million-dollar.
For example: some group of game programmer(don't know any ASM) make
a great MMORPG game and they earn alot of money from it.

Nowaday, I see alot of game are make from BASIC langauge and right now
they have specific BASIC programming language for making game. Like
BlitzBasic and DarkBasic.

well yeah, that's why game programming is now really popular in the industry. They just need to follow whatever game system that they're making the game for. I somehow, I still think that there must be somewhere that create that game running smoothly without using too much memory.. even though I think it's all handled by the Game Engine now the question is that, are game engine makers making more money than game programmers? XD haha..

There are alot of good 3D Engine right now and some game make more money
than some 3D engine. For example: Ragnarok Online, you have to pay
$14 monthly to play it and there are like 100,000 of player in that game. So
they earn nearly million of dollar per month.
