Icon8 How do you learn programming?

Sometimes I'm getting overwhelmed because I don't even know where should I start or should I focus to one thing first and then the other. Well, actually.. yeah, I admit that I'm very ambitious person. I'm interested in so many things and wanted to learn more about them, like, seriously!! I'm kind of addicted with coding too, that's why I want to code and learn! haha...

Currently, I'm still working on ASP.NET and PHP, but I also need to adapt with new Linux environment on my PC. I'm also on my way with Java (I've pretty good background on it, that's why I think it's easier for me to understand another languages) Please give me advice, opinions, or suggestions PT Gurus

Pick your niche and stick to it. If you don't know your niche, then explore, but when you find it, stick to it. Become very experienced in your niche and add a bit to it by extending that knowledge to related niches. You don't need to know everything; you need to know everything about your particular niche (and a little about the related areas).

I'm still between ASP.NET and PHP, that's why it confuses me... haha.. which one do you think I should go first I'd personally more interested with ASP.NET for now, but I don't have ASP.NET web server though, I only have Linux based that supports PHP... haha...

I'd recommend PHP. ASP can be run on Linux/Apache, but I'm not sure how.

Well, actually I was thinking to learn ASP.NET first and then go with PHP at the later time. But what you said is correct that PHP is capable to run on both IIS and Apache while ASP.NET cannot run on Apache. So probably I'll go first with PHP and be good at it first so that I can create application that can be used anywhere...

Thanx for the help TeraTask!

Konr is on a distinguished road
One way and one way only. By doing it.

Do not confuse learning a 'programming notation', also called a 'programming language', with learning to programme.

I don't really get what you mean with this...
learning to program != learning a programming language...? hmm...
Learning to program with a programming language, but it's also learning a programming language at the same time XD

Learning to program usually means learning logic flow and stuff, things that are present in any programming language in some form or another. There are tools such as Microsoft Visio that allow you to create flowcharts detailing logic and control flow. However, it isn't actually a programming language.

I'm sure there is a deeper meaning behind Konr's words, but I don't feel like trying to figure it out right now. LOL

I also learned that a while back ago about UML diagram if you know, it probably will help a lot to debugging process in a large application. But there's debug tools in Eclipse too... -.-"

Learn to program: like rpgfan3233 said, it is about logic and problem solving
and also technique on programming. It is really important, and there is
no limit of learning it. The more you programming the more it earn.

Learn programming langauge: Learn about the syntax of language and feature
that langauge provide. For example: Variable, Class, Function....

I think this is what Konr mean, but it is better to explain by Konr because
I am unclear too maybe there is deeper meaning behind it....
