![]() I didn't try it out though for some reason.... have you tried this program? How does it work? Is it like a virtual machine on Linux that's going to be just like Windows or what..? Sorry if I sound kind of dumb I used this thing called VMware if you know a while back ago when I used my old laptop to run both Windows and Mandrake 10.1. It ran pretty well, but my laptop sucked, so I had to uninstall it and it wasn't that convenient for old laptop...Last edited by HelloWorld : 06-28-2007 at 07:27 PM. |

| I actually thinking for these programs or if there are substitute for these programs in Linux. I have Fedora 7 burned on DVD already, it's all up for installation, just need to make sure everything first, or should I just go..? haha.. I'm nerveous, and this is a huge change in my computing history.. I'm going to try to stay up with Linux for my life time (hoepfully I can) for my PC ![]() These programs: - Adobe Creative Suite 3 - Visual Studio 2005 - Eclipse (I'm pretty sure it will work) - mySQL Query Browser (I think they have Linux version..) - XAMPP (or Apache, mySQL, and PHP) - IIS and .NET Framework (for ASP.NET) Those are programs which are most important for my everyday life time.. ![]() |

| I have not used wine but the version of linux i used came with something that did the same job, it will just run applications like it would in windows by using this so i guess its kind of a virtual machine. As for you list of programs i would think they would all work if you set them up right and ran them through something like wine apart from IIS as thats for windows and windows only as far as i know, that is why when you get a web host and they have linux running you can not run pages like .asp pages but then the effects are the same if you get a windows server some things will be left out and linux is most recommended. |

| you could always use a boot up linux to get the basics of it, i used SLAX its good for learning basic thing and comes with a program that runs windows applications already! (yes its wine) ![]() if you have a USB you can put the files on there and use a boot up CD to boot from the USB (way i did it) or you can just have one single boot up CD i think. Link: SLAX download page I used the killbill version but theres others to try. |
