Hey well I am going to show something simple that will be needed for the rest of my future tutorials for photoshop.

First Background:
For this technique you are going to be creating a patern. After reading this you should be able to create some thing like this:



First thing is to create new image 20 pixels by 20 pixels... create a new layer (ALT + CTRL + SHIFT + N) then delete background.

Now select the pencil tool, and then zoom in to 3200% ( CTRL and + about 10 times). Make your color black and draw what I have here:
(To scale)


Now once you have finished they above go to Edit > Define Pattern... and choose a name (maybe lines).

Now go ahead and close out of that and make a new image any size (I did 700 X 200). Now right click on the background layer > blending options.. and apply the following settings:



Now click ok and there you go...
