What is shell programming and Visual Basic Programming?

I cant help you with shell programming but VB programming is where you use a program to visually draw on components to a form so you can see what it looks like before you program anything, from there you program behind the form so the buttons and other controls perform different actions.

The only shell programming I've heard is when you write a program that interfaces into the Windows shell. O'Reilly has a pretty good book called Visual Basic Shell Programming, although it's a few years old.

My basic definition of Shell programming is when you create program in a protocol such as TCL that will do things from the protocol, for you. I haven't had experiences with shell programming before but it seems interesting. Many Linux programmers like to do these, for some reason...

Shell scripting in Linux didn't cross my mind, but they're basically like batch files on a DOS machine. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with Visual Basic though.
