If python is very high level, slower than most languages and doesn't compile, doesn't that make it like BASIC langauge? Why do people reccomend it?

It's mostly used for scripting. Some client's even have python scripting support in their software to preform simple tasks within that software kind of like batch programming in DOS or shell script in Linux. Another example of use for it would be in command line terminals or IRC clients to where the user can be allowed to preform many tasks without typing a lot of commands..
