What is C#?

What's the main difference between C# and C/C++?
Which is more powerful, well this probably depends on the job.
Is it newer or older than C++?
What's it's root?

Thanks

C# is obviously newer than C++... It's really similar to Java, and I guess C# is the language that Microsoft has to compete with Java Technology...

I maybe wrong but i think C# uses the .NET Framework where as C/C++ obviously doesn't.... That is the main difference i can think of.

umm.. not necessarily.. if you're using Visual Studio, C++ that you're talking about is C++.NET

My understanding, and this isn't exactly my subfield, is that the .NET architecture makes most of the capability of each language similar, the difference being primarily in syntax. C# came well after C++ and I've always thought of it (C#) as a cross between Visual Basic and C++. .NET came after them all and is really a MicroSoft thing which isn't likely to be supported by non-MS compilers. If you're looking for ultimate power above assembly, then go with C++. C# is a MicroSoft thing, so keep that in mind.

C# is a mixture of C++ Syntax and VB Syntax... I've definitely grown to love C#... tis the way to go regarding .NET but if you need an app that isn't based on a Runtime - go with a lower level language.
