Domain Transfer..???

Hey guys,
I'm planning to transfer my personal home page domain to another hosting company, how does the process work? Have anybody done this before..? It's not that the current hosting that I'm using that suck, it's just that they're kind of slow in keeping up with the new version of the backbone application e.g PHP... Which kind of annoyed me in a certain way... thx

It depends on what CP you are using if you do it the other way but if your signing up to a hosting you can do so with your domain name, all you need to do then is go to your old host and change the DNS to your new hosts DNS, that way you have ready set up your domain.

On your new host (the site is accessible by the dedicated ip, though the folder when created may have the domain name, it will not direct to the site when you put the domain name into the browser).

To make this work get your new hosts DNS servers (normally two of them e.g. NS1.yourhost.com), go to your old host, normally there should be an option for domain name options go in there and change. (sometimes the domain is locked so you need to unlock, transfer by changing information then lock again).

Sorry if that is not perfectly clear, i am tired lol, any questions ask away.
Lee.

Yeah, I did that before for one of my clients, but do I need to renew the domain name from the old host, or is it going to be automatically transferred into the new host and be renewed there?

It will only be renewed if you pay for it to be renewed otherwise it is simply transfered, you will normally find that your host is normally not the registra of the domain name so in future you will get an email from the company you bought it off once the domain is transfered otherwise it will be paid through the host you have now should you stick with them... At least thats what happened with me.

That's all correct, Lee. Also, something you may wish to consider is keeping your domain registration separate from your hosting. If your host is down and you need to get a new host, you will appreciate not having to wait or go through any domain transfer procedures with your old host. I, for instance, get my domains through GoDaddy and hosting through MadRooster.
