AS3 is a complete overhaul from AS2, for starters it is now much closer to an OOP language, fixed the property names (like _root and _stage are now root and stage), Everything is based on DisplayObjects or InteractiveObjects, you don't need Flash to develop - its very similar to Java - if you are just starting flash, pretend you never knew AS2 existed
