Wow, congratulation for making a good decision!!!
I'm currently self learning C++ as well, and hopefully can get everything going fast. C++ is just a little bit more complication compared to other higher level language such as Java in the sense where you can play around with bits and memory allocation. Other than that, I'm moving toward DirectX open source project.
